This month’s 10 on 10 looks slightly different from July’s 10 on 10 in that all I had to use was my iPhone and a little point and shoot camera. You see, a week ago we left for our vacation. Being bold in my attempt to improve my film skills, I walked out the door with only my film camera, leaving my digital-and-very-familiar camera sitting at home. Clearly I wasn’t thinking about how I would need to take pictures for my 10 on 10 and have them developed and ready to post the day that I returned. Just wasn’t gonna happen.
As luck would have it, my daughter got sick with Hand Foot and Mouth Disease on the way to South Texas, our destination. After a few days of constant crying about the painful blisters in her mouth and a second kid coming down with it as well, we decided to stop at Wal-Mart to pick up popsicles since every attempt at real food was a failure. Walking through the store, my eyes just happened to spot a tiny little water-proof camera. And I knew, I had to have it for my 10 on 10 project! My husband called it “impulse spending” but I like to think it was a brilliant move on my part.
We are back home and still recovering from the 10 hour drive, blisters and sore throats but I did manage to get some fun shots for this month. I started out the morning before 6am (unheard of for me) to go on a 20 mile bike ride with my mom. The sunrise was beautiful and during our second hour, it was flaring perfectly through the palm trees!

I love this shot because our little Joe had just learned to swim the day before! He was so, so proud of himself.

We took a break to go eat at Parrot Eyes for lunch. The kids did a good job of not looking posed for me.

Having a post-nap popsicle…

We ended the day with one last meal on the island before it was time to head home the next morning.

I ended up loving this month’s 10 on 10 edition. It was nice to do all of my “editing” on my phone, and underwater pictures…so fun!
Now head over to Amy Lucy | Minneapolis Photographer and see what she captured for her 10 on 10. I’m sure it’s stunning, you won’t be disappointed!

so Im pretty much in love with you and any camera you have in your hands…and I happen to agree with you that the underwater camera was a stroke of pure brilliance… REMARKABLE and WONDERFUL…and dang it… I just wanna oil your kids to death.
Impulse spending or not it’s a friggin fantastic idea!!! Love your combo of photos so much. I know she’ll never forget her mama slept next to her all the while…
Fav shots are the underwater…esp of Joe with your hands out. That would be hanging HUGE in my house if I had it. Brilliant! I am going to buy my underwater camera today. I absolutely adore your perspective
So I have been dying to get a cheap underwater camera and because of you i’m heading out this morning to find one! You are my cool new friend i’m gonna copy.
These are fantastic. I have a waterproof camera too and it is sooo worth that impulse purchase!!
Yup, pure genius with the underwater camera. You were right, hubby was wrong. Love those so much! Your day looks so wonderful. You can do amazing things with any camera.
You are then crowned the Impulse Queen!! Love these!!!
Couldn’t b more perfect kristy
man, i need to get an iphone! LOVE all of these, but i am so sad your kids were sick on vacation.
Fabulous idea, I’m a big supporter of impulse spending.
love the first shot, it makes me want a vacation! Gorgeous work k, equipment isnt everything. Cant wait to see the film versions.
And to think all of these shots without a professional camera. You really amaze me K! You shoot some of my favorite lifestyle. Love all of these a ton!
And that my friend just shows it has nothing to do w/ the camera, and everytyhing to do w/ the photog. These are such amazing images and I love that you captured them w/ a walmart camera. The water images are awesome. So sorry things have been so crazy for you, hopefully it is all looking up from here on out!
well, darn…my iphone images never look like this. proof that it’s about the person not the equipment. can’t wait to see what you captured on that film! hope you all are recovered from the trip!
Love the underwater camera too! I may have to get one before the pool closes. Looking forward to your film images.
love the underwater ones … but i think that would mean i had to put on a suit to use it.
lovely day with your family!
